Snoliday!

Posted on November 22nd, 2007 at 10:21pm

On Sunday, I got back from my snoliday with Myke. We went to Perranporth (Cornwall, England) and stayed in the Perranporth Inn for seven days.

It was sunny most of the time, constantly windy (one of those icy, sea winds!) and we only had a couple of days where it rained, so the weather was nice for us! :)

On the way there, I spent most of it stressing out and panicking; I find travelling extremely stressful if I'm going a way I've never been before.

We had a nice room with a great view^ - probably the best view in the entire hotel.
We're sure that when we got there, we were the only people staying - no noise, no seeing other guests, etc. It was lovely and quiet until the third or fourth night - then all we could hear when we were trying to watch a DVD was banging and loud voices! It was much quieter the next night and by our last night, everything was quiet again like it was the first few nights. :)

When we got there, we realised that we had one mug each, a spoon between us, no food, no teabags and no milk. So off we went, to the local 'supermarket'. We got some food, teabags and milk, but still only had the one mug each and a spoon between us. By the end of the Snoliday, we'd managed to get ourselves some disposable bowls and some cutlery. We basically 'survived' on sandwiches, diet coke, tea and Pringles for the entire week, lol.^ The room didn't have a fridge in it and since the bathroom was freezing cold, it doubled up as our fridge!

On our first full day, Myke dragged me up hills and over cliffs. I got to take pictures of awesome views from the cliffs^ and I got to play with - and take pictures of - loads^ of^ bones^!

A few days into the Snoliday, we decided to pay a little visit to the duck pond. It was a 'spur of the moment' thing, so we didn't bring any bread with us. We got to the duck pond and all the ducks started swimming towards us. Then the ducks started getting out of the water^, still coming towards us. We stopped thinking they were coming towards us to greet us and we started backing up. The ducks then started to chase us around the duck pond!^ After one lap of the duck pond, we decided we'd had enough of being chased by ducks^ and left the duck pond.
We went back the next day, this time with bread - we'd learnt our lesson! - and tried to feed the ducks. Unfortunately, the seagulls decided that they wanted the bread and kept stealing it from the ducks. So, while Myke was chucking bread onto the floor, I was chasing the seagulls around and trying to scare them off. This didn't work, so we tried sneaking the bread behind us, hoping the ducks would figure out that they'd get the bread if they went behind us. That didn't really work - only one duck was smart enough to figure this out and I had to try and keep the seagulls from getting too close to this duck. So in the end, we managed to feed a duck - Whitey^, the smartest duck in the whole duck pond!
Yeah, it wasn't really much of a victory.

There was a small art and photography gallery on the main street and we decided to go and have a look around (this was the day before our last full day of Snoliday). Some of the photos and paintings in there were stunning and the photographs in particular, made me want to go and take some beautiful photographs of Perranporth beach during a sunset. So, when it looked like the sun might be setting soon, we went off to the beach, ready for me to get some sunset photos! I managed to take^ some pretty good photographs^ as the sun was setting.

On our last full day, we went and explored (and Myke climbed all over^) the interesting rocks, which are all over Perranporth beach.

So, despite only knowing each other for like, three months, Myke and I had a great time on Snoliday together and being around one another 24/7 hasn't made us want to kill each other! (I thought it would either make us hate each other or like each other even more. It made us like each other even more. :))
I can't wait for our next Snoliday! Hopefully, we'll get to stay in a caravan too!

:D Sounds like you had an awesome time, I've yet to look at the pics but have tabbed them all so will look after typing this lol.
Those poor ducks getting there bread stolen! I'm not a fan of seagulls, too much poo when they're around if you ask me!
I've been to Cornwall quite a few times in the past and from what I can remember it's a really pretty place to visit.
